Logos for Mac 4 Beta!!!

mclogos.jpg

...ok the Logos for Mac Beta is finally here. Here's the skinny

They are getting close to a full product for Mac. That's good news because then Mac users can get away from the abominable mixing of the Mac / Pc genomes - it's unnatural and perverted. Mac - Fusion - Windows - Logos... it is a infernal pairing, from the Pit and as slow as Satan's apology.

Dear Jesus,

Please do not return before the full product of McLogos is complete, just give me one day with it free from Fusion and Xp on my Mac!

Sincerely,
Chuckk

The First Letter of Peter to the Church @ Elevation

barz.jpg

As I mentioned on Sunday Elevation family member Peter Moore is currently incarcerated over the hill in San Jose. We hope and pray he'll be home with us soon. I visited Peter last week and he gave me an open letter for the church to encourage us. Peter is doing well, is in good spirits and ministering to the other men locked up with him. It would be excellent if we bombed him with letters from home to encourage HIM. Here's where you can write Peter.

The first letter of Peter to the church of Elevation

From Peter, a humble servant of God striving to become a new person through Jesus Christ to my friends and family at it's church body known as Elevation in the city of Santa Cruz.

Greetings my friends from the confines of cell number 44 here at Elmwood Milpitas (correctional facility). Rejoice with me for the Lord God is good and has delivered me from myself. The past few weeks have been nothing short of amazing and totally thought provoking. I can truly say that never have I felt as close to God as I do at this moment!!

While being here, for however long God deems he needs me, is affording me the opportunity to both grow on a personal level and share the word of God and the message of His forgiveness to a "captive" audience in a way that most people and churches cannot access. I know a large percentage of the people who believe they will change once they reclaim their freedom will fall back into the comfort of their "old ways", but even then I hope that the message of God will be like a seed planted in the back of their mind that will one day germinate and start to grow.

It occurred to me the other day that some people pay thousand's to go away to mountain retreats to find solace and peace and here I am receiving the same "for free" except I can't leave when I choose to - all for free. The freedom to study the bible, meditate and reflect is a treat. I hope all of you will afford yourselves the luxury of trying. I know from now on that this will be an essential part of my life as a living, active and able follower of Christ.

Should this letter get to Chuckk, and therefore you all, before Sunday July 4th then I wish you all a very Happy 4th of July Independence day. Just spare a thought for us Brits amongst you as a reminder, for you to win we had to lose!! Even with the current state of the economy, I am not sure if it was such a gain after all.

I look forward to receiving news of our first mission as a church to Mexico. I know we are just at the start of the adventure of our lives. As I have said to Chuckk, we should find a way to capture our journey so that we may share it with other new churches and indeed established churches to show and proclaim what an amazing thing we have accomplished through and for God. It seems hard to believe that 12 months ago we were destined to be homeless and penniless and look where God has put us!!

So my friends, I wish you all well and ask that we take stock of our lives and give thanks to God on a continuous basis for the blessings that he has given us that we simply take for granted in our normal everyday lives. I find it interesting that some of the most disadvantaged seem to be the most appreciative amongst us. Perhaps there is a lesson in there for all of us.

For those amongst you who have prayed for me and helped me undertake some essential changes while I am here I say a deeply heart felt thank you. To those of you who are "on the sidelines" I ask that you get involved and see where God leads you. We know his promise to us is good and it is up to us to ask for his help and guidance, he is the constant. It is us who vary in commitment to him.

To Omar and "the band" I miss you greatly, unfortunately some 20-30 guys singing verses and hymns doesn't quite compare, but the thought and hope is there if nothing else.

I look forward to being reunited with you all very soon.

Your friend and fellow servant in God,

Peter

Keep Peter in your prayers and know that a letter from you would be huge!

Hebrews 13:3 Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

Cussing

cussing.jpg

What exactly does the Bible consider cussing? How do you know when you've cussed from a scriptural perspective? There are so many personal opinions on this and so little teaching on the subject. What are the rules governing clean Christ-honoring speech? The answers may surprise you. All I know is this - I want the words of my mouth to honor Jesus!

I'm working overtime this week searching the Scriptures for the answers for this Sunday's message at E - can't wait to share it. There's so much here that this will be a 2 week long study / sermon so we'll be exploring this issue this Sunday June 6th and next Sunday June 13th.

Tongue, Piercing. is about how our words can pierce others or bless them. Starts 2moro @E. No actual tongues will be hurt, pierced or mangled in the making of this sermon series.

AND

HOT TIP: If you didn't hear last week's podcast go check it out at our website www.elevationSC.org. The totality of last Sunday's sermon is the testimonies of the 6 people who we're baptized, you'll be blessed.

God @ Work @ E.

I'm pretty stoked, we're having baptisms for the first time as a new church this Sunday . 6 people are TTP (taking the plunge) and 2 more are waiting in the wings to see if they can get off work to be baptized also. The stories will bless your inner Christian don't miss it! Baptisms are such a great time to see and hear the invisible working of God's Spirit in the inner lives of people you sit next to in a church gathering!

small tng.jpg

The new series is coming, starting the following Sunday. Tongue, Piercing. It's an exploration of MRRC (mouth related relational chaos) and managing the flamethrower called our tongue. Your relationships and personal peace could be enhanced as a result.

The Mexico Mission team is getting ready for their trip to the Grace Children's Home in Rosarito Mexico, I'm super stoked to see a bunch of our folks heading down to serve others out of the ZOC (zone of comfort).

The brand spanking new ESLG (Elevation Student Life Group) is already thriving, there are 13-14 students and 6 staff showing up every week. Some of the kids are not yet followers of Jesus, so yeah Jesus!. My buddy and apprentice Brian Guzman is doing a great job leading them and challenging them. This Saturday we're all going to San Francisco on a photo safari scavenger hunt to build community and memories.

...Loving what God is doing at E these days.

Elevation Motorcycle Ride

ride.jpg

The rain is gone, I have fresh tires on my Harley and the wind is calling me. If you have a shiny motorcycle (of any brand - we're non-denominational) join me and a few friends from Elevation for a little motorcycle ride. You deserve a Cycle Sabbath!

This is a great op to invite a friend who is unconvinced about Jesus but is convinced about the goodness of motorcycling.

Details Details:

Saturday May 15th. We're meeting at the Christian Life Center parking lot 1009 Mission Street in Santa Cruz. Come with your gas tank full, a jacket & some money for lunch along the road.

The Ceasing

rest.jpg

Tonight at Elevation we'll be talking about the often neglected ritual of Sabbath. Here are a few ideas for what to do when you choose to cease for a day. If accompanied by a thankful heart and a focus on the Creator any of these ideas can bring rest to your soul.

Eat and taste the food - give thanks to God
Sleep in (a sign of trust that things will get done)
Got a hot tub or spa? use it
A long bath
Go surfing
Meditate on a passage in Scripture
Bicycles Ride
Do a Puzzle
Play a musical instrument
Rent a Kayak
Drive the coast or mountains
Ride a motorcycle, Jesus would
Take a nap - Napping is awesome
Listen to music, not as background music - listen
Sports you wish you had time to do
Life giving recreation vs draining activity
Read Scripture
Lay out in the sun, lose that Nor Cal Non-Tan
Walk the Dog
Board games
Pray
Go out for Ice Cream
Make love
Take a walk
Get some exercise
Invite other people to your Sabbath

...Anything that charges your batteries, brings joy and can be given thanks for. Slow Down, stop moving so fast, relax your shoulders and look around you the world God created is Beautiful.

Remember to truly sabbath instead of just chill out you must remember God and interact with him in the midst of these or other activities.

Trinity High Speed Baptism

One of the problems many church planters have to deal with is that if you want to do indoor baptisms (so the whole body can be there to celebrate) you don't often have a lil" swimmin' hole in the facilty you use on Sundays.

...okay, so here's a idea (see below) It even has three lanes, very Trinitarian!

trinity baptism2.jpg

QUESTION: When you think of creative ways to do baptisms indoor, in a rented facility like a gym, a night club, a theater, what would be creative ways to immerse folks?

Baptisms @ Elevation coming again May 23rd - dipping in who knows what!

Ok, so you've never REALLY studied Revelation until you check out this website that has the Book of R all translated in the language of Lego... In fact, the site has the Bible done in Lego but Revelation is well a... Revelation. Enjoy, smile and consider just how dispensational you are or not.

March 21, 1986 Dr. William Edwards M.D wrote an article on the physical aspects of the crucifixion of Jesus in the Journal of American Medical Association. This article can be downloaded for $15 at the JAMA website.

This is the article I referred to in the message Sunday March 28th. A good meditation as we move towards Good Friday and a powerful article for Bible Teachers.

The Judgement of God

last-judgment-wga-350.jpg

I use the Scriptures themselves for my Quiet Times with God (I'm currently spending time with Jesus as He and I read and talk through the book of Joshua). Even though the Bible is the ultimate devotional guide I do like to add to my quiet times good stuff like at Oswald Chambers in addition to my personal Scripture plans. I found a recent reading from Chambers that I loved and want to share with you.

I can't wait to stand before Jesus when he judges my life, the thought brings me great joy! Heeeeere's Oswald.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ. 2 Cor. 5:10

Paul says that we must all, preacher and people alike, "appear before the judgment seat of Christ." If you learn to live in the white light of Christ here and now, judgment finally will cause you to delight in the work of God in you. Keep yourself steadily faced by the judgment seat of Christ; walk now in the light of the holiest you know. A wrong temper of mind about another soul will end in the spirit of the devil, no matter how saintly you are. One carnal judgment, and the end of it is hell in you. Drag it to the light at once and say--'My God, I have been guilty there.' If you don't, hardness will come all through. The penalty of sin is confirmation in sin. It is not only God who punishes for sin; sin confirms itself in the sinner and gives back full pay. No struggling or praying will enable you to stop doing some things, and the penalty of sin is that gradually you get used to it and do not know that it is sin. No power save the incoming of the Holy Ghost can alter the inherent consequences of sin.
"But if we walk in the light as He is in the light." Walking in the light means for many of us walking according to our standard for another person. The deadliest Pharisaism to-day is not hypocrisy, but unconscious unreality.

Visiting Church as an Atheist

qm.jpg

Ever wonder how church might look and feel to a visiting atheist? Here is an interesting blog by an atheist who visted our good friends at Vintage Faith Church one Sunday night.

Dan Kimball who is one of the pastors at Vintage blogged about this guy's article and I saw it on Dan's site.

How do people who are fully unconvinced about Jesus experience a church gathering - look and see.

Passages from Sunday's Message

If you were with us last Sunday or are planning on listening to the podcast you might want a list of the various scriptures we explored, here they are! You'll notice this study is focused around Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53 and connects these Old Testament prophetic passages to their fulfillment in the murder of Jesus.

Jesus himself calls it!
Luke 24: 44b Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."

Psalm 22:1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?
QUOTED: Matthew 27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"-which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

Psalm 22:6 I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people. 7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads:
MOCKED: Mark 13:31 In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves.
INSULTED: Matthew 27:44 In the same way the robbers who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
INSULTS AND HEAD SHAKING: Matthew 27: 39 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads

Psalm 22:8 "He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him."
WORDS: Matthew 27:43 "He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, 'I am the Son of God.' "

Psalm 22:14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint.

Psalm 22:14b My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me.
HEART: John 19:34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.

Psalm 22:15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.
PARCHED: John 19:28 Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty."

Psalm 22:16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.
John 19:18 Here they crucified him, and with him two others--one on each side and Jesus in the middle.

Psalm 22:17 I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me.

Psalm 22:18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.
LOTS; John 19:24 "Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it." This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said, "They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing." So this is what the soldiers did.

Does God forsake us or does he have a plan???
Psalm 22: 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? 2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. 3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel. 4 In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. 5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

Jesus Quotes Isaiah 53 : He understood the prophecies
Luke 22:37 It is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors'; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment."

Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
SILENT BEFORE ACCUSERS: Matthew 27: 12 When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer. 13 Then Pilate asked him, "Don't you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?" 14 But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge--to the great amazement of the governor.

Isaiah 53:8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants?
John 18:24 Then Annas sent him, still bound, to Caiaphas the high priest.
John 19:13 When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge's seat at a place known as the Stone Pavement.

Isaiah 53:8b For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken.

Isaiah 53:9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death
Matthew 27:57 As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. 58 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. 59 Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock.

Isaiah 53:9b he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.

Isaiah 53:11 After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.
RESURRECTION! :Luke 24:38 He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see

Isaiah 53:12b He poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors.

Isaiah 53:12c he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
INTERCEEDED: Luke 23:33 When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals--one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."

...6 days before his crucifixion
Luke 18:31 Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, "We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. 32 He will be handed over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him, spit on him, flog him and kill him.
